National Night Out Bruns Academy

A night with neighbors, family, and community police officers was the scene at Bruns Academy on the evening of August 7. Free food and music set the mood for this joyful event all about coming together as a stand against crime. The National Night Out website states that it is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

During the Bruns Academy National Night Out event elders sat and ate as youngsters played games like the super-sized Connect Four. Between the eating and music, announcements were made. Charlotte Center City Partners shared about the upcoming business district branding focused on the Proud History, Strong Future theme. Open Street 704 talked about their upcoming event that will weave its way through the Historic West End. Officers got on the mic and encouraged the community to continue coming together like they did for National Night Out and just connected with the attendees in general.

After the announcements, the night was finished up with neighbors joining in to dance the Wobble, Cupid Shuffle, and other popular group dances. It was a night of togetherness and community that achieved its goal to bring people out in a crime-free environment while celebrating the police officers in the community.
