Soul Junction goes beyond the limits of a two-day music festival on the Liston Hall lawn at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). The festival is connected to events at the United House of Prayer for All People and the New Science Center on the JCSU main campus. GospelSHOUT! and the Soul Junction Tech & Makers Expo are two kickoff events not to be missed.

GospelSHOUT! is a celebration of the shout band gospel tradition. It will be hosted at the United House of Prayer for All People (2321 Beatties Ford Road just off I-85) on Thursday, September 13. The Soul Junction, music-filled weekend will kickoff with the sound of acapella choirs and trombones. This free concert starts and 7:30pm, but if you come at 6pm you can purchase a plate of soul food from the cafeteria. A soul food dinner and soul stirring gospel music on a Thursday evening is a great preview of the fun in store at Soul Junction on September 14 - 15.

Before the big show on Saturday, September 15 attendees have the chance to explore tech that is connected to the arts. The Soul Junction Tech & Makers Expo goes beyond the concert experience and brings hands-on edutainment workshops to Soul Junction Festival goers. From 9am-3pm the New Science Center on JCSU’s main campus will be filled with tech workstations for beatmaking, 3D printing, coding, and graphic design. This family-friendly event provides a hands-on tech experience that makes STEM learning fun.

Gospel and STEM education are a part of this year’s Soul Junction offerings. Soul Junction has found ways to extend the fun of the music festival with its two kickoff events. For more information about GospelSHOUT! visit For more information about the Soul Junction Tech & Makers Expo visit
