There is a new bar on the westside of town. However, it is not a bar known for its buffalo wings and beer taps, it is a bar that will be known for its manicures and pedicures. Vanity Nail Bar has set up shop in the small office building at 222 Wesley Heights Way. It is run by couple Brittany Le and Kevin Nguyen. Le has been in the nail business since the late ’90s and Nguyen has been an entrepreneur all of his life. So when the two love birds got together, it only made sense for them to go into business together in addition to getting married.
The big day when they say “I do” has yet to come, but they have already said “I do” to running a nail shop on Charlotte's westside. “This is a cute neighborhood,” exclaimed Le. The two were looking for a house on the westside but instead stumbled upon the vacant office space in Wesley Heights. Upon seeing the space, they decide to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams before they set-up their dream home on the westside. Nguyen explained, “We were house hunting and we stumbled across this small building with office space available.” He paused, “And we fell in love with it.”
It was not just the space that Nguyen and Le fell in love with, it was also the neighborhood’s personality. Nguyen explained, “This is the area I want to live in and she wants to live in. It has been in our minds that we want to stay somewhere that is connected. This neighborhood is very connected. This is a place where everybody can get to know everybody. We admire that and we want to move here.”
Since moving their business here they have experienced the connectedness first-hand. They had a soft-opening on January 10. They have been testing out the staff and the equipment and hosted its grand opening on February 10.
During the soft opening, they had a good amount of business. “[As of mid-January] We have had about 40 clients. It has been people walking by checking out what we were doing,” explained Le. “People here are very supportive.”
Nguyen said they anticipated the friendliness when moving to the west side. About 7 years before house hunting with Le, Nguyen was searching for a lot on the west side to build his house but, it just did not happen at that time due to work relocation requirements. During that lot purchasing experience, he saw first hand how nice the people were. Nguyen decided that he would find a way to get back on Charlotte’s west side in the future. Vanity Nail Bar is that declaration coming into fruition.
Le and Nguyen said Vanity Nail Bar will be a clean space where West Charlotteans can get pampered and be treated like family. There is something for everyone here. They even have nail services for kids. The couple wanted to make sure everyone can be serviced here, even the busy mom or nanny that had to bring the kids to the nail shop. Their goal is to stay connected with the community. Nguyen explained, “We want every customer that comes in here to feel like we have become a part of their life.”
